About this event
Dealing with the Devil Card: Shadow, Desire, and Liberation in Practice
An intimate & vulnerable discussion with The Rebis : The Devil issue contributors about working with The Devil archetype in liberatory ways.
What does it mean to physically embody freedom in a world that so often demands conformity, obedience, and silence? This intimate roundtable discussion, moderated by Hannah Levy of The Rebis, brings together Christopher Marmelojo, Maria Minnis, and Rebecca “Bee” Scolnick for a conversation exploring shame, oppression, confrontation, and pleasure.
The Devil is a portal into radical honesty and embodiment, so our panelists will get real about how they're working with this archetype in their practices and lives. Topics will include kink, trans joy, living with chronic illness & disability, and the ongoing work of making art and living under authoritarianism.
All attendees will receive a complimentary copy of The Rebis: The Devil (a $28 value), featuring writing and art by contributors like Christopher, Maria, and Bee, as well as tarot practitioners like Meg Jones Wall, Laetitia Barbier, Stephanie Adams-Santos, Charlie Claire Burgess, Lex Hesperus, and many others!
Ticket price: $22 (in-person event only)
Please email events@prs.org or phone 323-663-2167 with any questions.
Christopher Marmolejo, MA, is a Brown, queer, and trans writer, diviner, and educator. They are the author of Red Tarot: A Decolonial Guide to Divinatory Literacy. As a trained educator focused on cultivating classrooms of emancipatory possibility, they work with students around the world to plant and nurture the seed of a divinatory practice, finely weaving tarot, astrology, and curanderismo with decolonial, queer epistemologies and critical, feminist pedagogies. Maria Minnis is a tarot reader of 20+ years who teaches people about blending their spirituality with magic, liberation work, and eroticism in their everyday lives. She believes that the end result of all magic should be to cultivate a more erotic, equitable, and empathetic planet. She is the host of the "Kinky Tarot" podcast and her highly acclaimed antiracism tarot workbook Tarot for the Hard Work is available online and in stores. Follow her work @feminnis.
Rebecca ‘Bee’ Scolnick is a writer, witch, and weirdo, who wants to help make meaning out of mess. Her books The Witch’s Book of Numbers: Enhance Your Magic With Numerology and Marriage by the Numbers: Planning Your Wedding Using Numerology are out now, and she pens swimming in the soup on Substack. She is also one-third of "Call Your Coven: Practical Advice for Nonsensical Times," a new podcast that blends numerology, astrology and the tarot into one monthly forecast. Bee lives in Los Angeles with the loves of her life: her wife and their pup. Follow her @beescolnick.
Hannah Levy is a writer, poet, and editor-in-chief of The Rebis.
