Description

This event is the third in the YWCA Greater Cincinnati Days of Dialogue Series. Everyone is welcome (whether you attended the original lecture or not).

On Nov. 20, 2016, Award-winning author of Between the World and Me and national correspondent for The Atlantic, Ta-Nehisi Coates visited Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH, and gave a lecture on “On Race in America.” His words were thought-provoking and challenging.

YWCA Greater Cincinnati is collaborating with the Center for Race, Gender, and Social Justice at the University of Cincinnati College of Law, and IJPC (Intercommunity Justice & Peace Center) to offer a series of community dialogues to follow-up the Coates lecture and continue the conversation. The third in the series, Days of Dialogue: Ta-Nehisi Coates, will offer a safe space for community members to talk about and unpack some of the concepts Coates shared during his lecture.

The mission of the Dialogue Process, which was developed by IJPC, is:

  • to create, offer, and facilitate experiences of learning about how to really listen to others whose opinions differ on significant social issues;

  • to promote civil discourse;

  • to stimulate critical thinking, and;

  • to create an opportunity where people can talk with others who differ and learn from them in a safe and comfortable environment.

Please join us for a thoughtful and engaging evening. Everyone is welcome (whether you attended the original lecture or not). To ensure rich dialogue, space is limited to 40 people and will likely fill up quickly. Once registration fills, we will keep a wait list and inform you of future dialogues. If you register but then find that you are unable to attend, please be respectful of others and release your ticket. Doors will open at 5:15 pm and programming begins at 5:45 pm. Coates will not be present for this dialogue series. Light refreshments will be served. Questions? Please call 513-361-2139.
