Step into the fascinating world of honeybees with Riverview Road Apiary’s Day with a Beekeeper! You'll get an up-close look at a working hive, learn about the life of a beekeeper, and discover how honey is made—from flower to frame.
Then, relax and savor a guided honey tasting featuring five distinct honeys from around the world. From floral to bold, fruity to earthy—you’ll never think of honey the same way again.

Frequently asked questions
Yes. We provide bee suits and veils for safety. Please wear closed-toe shoes, long pants, and avoid wearing strong scents (like perfumes or scented lotions). Please do not wear skirts.
Yes, with proper gear and guidance. The hive visit is supervised, and safety is a top priority. However, guests with known bee allergies should consult their doctor before attending. If you are allergic to bee stings, please let us know in advance.
The full experience lasts about 1 hour, with approximately 30 minutes at the hives and 60 minutes for the honey tasting, but we do allow for two hours as there are often a lot of questions.
You'll try five unique honeys from around the world. Flavors may include clover, buckwheat, orange blossom, wildflower, or even rare varietals like eucalyptus, depending on availability. If you have a particular honey you would like to taste, please let us know and we will try to accommodate.
Yes! We usually have a small farmstand available with our own local honey, beeswax lip balm, and other products.
Riverview Road Apiary is in Chillicothe, Illinois—just north of Peoria.
Yes. We can accommodate private groups, homeschool co-ops, garden clubs, or corporate outings. Just reach out and we’ll customize your experience. We prefer no more than groups of 10.
Hive tours are weather-dependent for safety. In case of rain, we may reschedule or offer an extended honey tasting and indoor beekeeping Q&A.
