About this event
This split bill show features the David Rodgers Experiment from 6pm-7pm and the Chase Elodia Quartet's Biophilia Records Release from 7:15pm-8:15pm.
Chase Elodia Quartet – Biophilia Records Release
Chase Elodia will bring his ensemble from Brooklyn, NY to Rudy's Jazz room for a performance in celebration of their Biophilia Records release, Portrait Imperfect. The band's approach combines a collaborative and improvisational sensibility with an aesthetic orientation that has been nourished by singer-songwriters and electronic artists like Meshell Ndegeocello, Norma Winstone, and Becca Stevens. Each member of the group is an exciting, emerging voice in the contemporary jazz scene in New York: Claire Dickson on Voice, Tyrone Allen on Bass, and Theo Walentiny on piano/keyboards, and Chase Elodia on drums. Chase is a 2021 ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Award Winner as well as a 2022 MacDowell Residency Fellow. His recording of Portrait Imperfect was funded in part by a Pathways to Jazz Grant from the Boulder County Arts Alliance.
David Rodgers Experiment
David Rodgers (piano), Jordan Perlson (drums), & Nic Townsend (synths) join creative forces for one night only to debut new music off of David’s forthcoming third studio-album.
Pianist and composer David Rodgers has toured or performed alongside artists including Keb’ Mo’, Taj Mahal, Kirk Whalum, and Ricky Skaggs, and has also recorded on numerous records including Keb’ Mo’s Grammy-winning Oklahoma (2019). He has performed worldwide at the Montreux Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, and the Playboy Jazz Festival, among many others. His compositions and arrangements span multiple genres, have been performed internationally, and have aired on network television including ESPN and the SEC Network. He has released two albums as a leader: his 2017 genre-bending, debut project Songs For A Generation; as well as his 2019 album, Doorways.
The career of drummer, percussionist, producer and educator Jordan Perlson has spanned about as wide a stylistic reach as one can imagine. Credits on 100+ recordings, including national and international ad campaigns for Powerade, Netflix, The NY Rangers, Buick and more, Jordan is at home in the studio as he is on stage. Having taught at prestigious institutions such as Berklee College of Music, New York University and masterclasses all over the world, Jordan is a passionate educator. An author of 2 books for Mel Bay publishing, Jordan’s books have been translated into several languages and are used the world round by teachers and students of many levels.
