Are you interested in Data Science careers? Are you wondering how to apply to non-academic jobs? Do you want to hear from people who have done this scary transition?

Please join us for a career development event focused on Data Science careers!

Our speakers are Samuel Crane from Amplify and Jenny Zhang from Immuneering.

Samuel Crane, PhD

Samuel is Director of Data Science at Amplify, a New York City based educational technology company. He manages a team of data scientists working to measure and extend Amplify’s impact. He earned his PhD in Ecology, Evolutionary Biology, and Behavior from The Graduate Center, CUNY and the Sackler Institute for Comparative Genomics at the American Museum of Natural History. He is interested in statistical programming, data visualization, and weevils.

Jenny Zhang, PhD

During her Ph.D., Jenny inadvertently started to become a data scientist before she knew what one was when she realized Excel would not handle next-generation sequencing data files. It was then that she began to cultivate her love of Python and Unix. Toward the completion of her degree, she had become increasingly aware of the term and was figuring out what to do next. So, she participated in the Data Incubator Fellowship, an 8-week program that prepares PhDs for and places them in careers as data scientists.

While interviewing for data science positions, she noticed repeated interest in her Ph.D. research generating and analyzing large-scale cancer sequencing data. Fortunately, she has been able to combine the two spheres in her career at Immuneering, where she applies data science expertise and understanding of disease biology to draw clinically and experimentally actionable insights from genomics data.
