Meet Justin Mayo
Justin Mayo is a senior data journalist with Big Local News at Stanford University, which supports local watchdog reporting through data gathering, analysis and training. In 2024, Big Local partnered with the Rural News Network on stories about staffing shortages at nursing homes. Big Local provided CMS data, built story recipes and organized a webinar to help journalist translate data into meaningful stories for their area. Before Stanford, he spent 20 years as an investigative reporter with The Seattle Times, sharing the 2018 Selden Ring Award, the 2015 Breaking News Pulitzer Prize and the 2012 Pulitzer Prize for Investigative Reporting.
