About this event

Great stories change the world. Great stories can move people. Great stories can fuel movements and campaigns.

Data and the visualization of data are critical components of a great story.

Are you trying to take your data analysis to the next level? You don't have to be a computer programmer to use Python and Panda to import, export, and explore data sets - including how to clean up messy data, how to group, filter, and sum, and where you can go from there.

As part of the workshop all attendees are required to "bring" a data set that they want to explore (online data sets are fine). Attendees will also receive a PDF of tools, tips, and resources to use in their work.

The fee is $40. If you can't afford this fee, please contact us at info@civiclab.us and we can make other arrangements.

The instructor is Anthony Moser who is a veteran data liberationist, software engineer, and public policy organizer. He is a founding member of Neighbors for Environmental Justice, where they are organizing to stop an asphalt plant from polluting McKinley Park. Anthony constructed and maintains the BetterDataPortal.com site as a gateway to a wide variety of public data sources.

Below are screens from Antony's exploration of Chicago Public Schools demographics and from 311 calls around air pollution.
