Data & Drafts: Immigration in Central Indiana

By SAVI, IndyPL, WFYI Public Media, The Polis Center

Overview

Join us as we explore immigration as it actually functions in Central Indiana.

What is Data & Drafts? It’s happy hour with data. It is an opportunity to learn through data trends about a social concern and how it impacts the world around us. Though there is a data presentation, it is less formal than our SAVI Talks events. Participants are encouraged to socialize, network, ask questions, and discuss the presentation findings to dive deeper into the topic - over beer. This is an in-person event at Indianapolis Central Library, 40 E St Clair St, Indianapolis, IN 46204. Doors open at 5:45pm, the event starts promptly at 6pm, and ends at 7:30pm. Parking is available in the Library’s underground parking garage, which can be accessed via Pennsylvania St.

Join us as we explore the next topic in our Where You Live Matters series: Immigration in Central Indiana. Through this collaboration between The Polis Center, SAVI, and WFYI, we'll explore immigration as it actually functions in Central Indiana: part of the region's labor market, its neighborhoods, and its role in driving economic access and opportunity. Central Indiana is home to over 200,000 immigrants who contribute $2.1 billion in annual taxes and hold $6.3 billion in spending power. They also make up a significant chunk of the community workforce: 23% of workers in wholesale trade, 18% in construction, 17% in transportation and warehousing, 15% in manufacturing, and 17% of STEM professionals. Together, they form an intrinsic part of the region's role as a logistics hub, its life sciences sector, and a manufacturing base.

Data & Drafts is a partnership between The Indianapolis Public Library, WFYI Public Media, and SAVI, a program of The Polis Center.
