In her new book By the Second Spring: Seven Lives and One Year of the War in Ukraine, historian Danielle Leavitt offers an intimate portrayal of the human experience behind Ukraine’s resistance to Russia’s 2022 invasion. On Thursday, June 26 at 6:00 PM, the author will host a book talk, Q&A, and book signing at Bookends & Beginnings.
Drawing on personal diaries and her own deep ties to the country, Leavitt follows a diverse group of Ukrainians as they navigate love, loss, and resilience during the war’s first year. Through these vivid stories, she reveals a complex national spirit often hidden behind headlines and heroism.
DANIELLE LEAVITT holds a PhD in history from Harvard University, where she has been a fellow at the Ukrainian Research Institute. She grew up in both Ukraine and the United States, and currently lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan. By the Second Spring is her first book.
