The Sharjah Architecture Triennial (SAT) presents DAAS in Sharjah: Sites in Conversation, a two-day gathering that unfolds across Sharjah.
At a historical moment marked by colonial destruction and fragmentation, DAAS in Sharjah cultivates communities grounded in affect and knowledge. The programme brings together participants, guests, and the broader community for collective conversations across Sharjah. From art and architecture to curatorial practices, hybrid identities, memory, resistance, and land, each session unfolds as a dialogue shaped by lived experiences and research. Through readings, discussions, and shared meals, the programme explores how sites, whether a camp, a city, a rooftop, or a piece of fabric, become methods of learning, resisting, and reimagining. The events culminate in open exchanges and a reflection on the art of conversation as both method and practice.
Programme Overview
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 1
Location: Al Qasimiyah School, Sharjah
Led by May Al-Dabbagh, Zoe Butt, Charles Esche, and Shahram Khosravi, the day unfolds through open Conversations that resist predetermined formats and invite collective reflection. Rooted in the urgencies of the moment, these conversations evolve through participants’ interventions and responses, allowing unexpected solidarities to emerge.
10:00–12:00 | Open Conversations IX and X
12:00–15:00 | Lunch
15:00–17:00 | Open Conversations XI and XII
18:00 | Convivial Coffee
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 2
Location: Concrete Tent, Al Madam
Hosted by DAAR at the Concrete Tent in Al Madam, the final gathering, On DAAS and the Art of Conversation, reflects on dialogue as the central methodology of DAAS. Participants come together to revisit their exchanges, acknowledging conversation not only as a form of knowledge production but as a way of being and practicing together. In this shared space, the art of conversation becomes both a method and horizon for future encounters and the future iteration of ‘DAAS in Cairo’.
