Cyanotype Workshop with Lely Constantinople: Capturing Light and Memory
Join 9S Studios and Washington, D.C. based artist Lely Constantinople for a hands-on exploration of the historic cyanotype process, a fascinating photographic technique developed in the 1840s that uses sunlight and simple chemistry to create distinctive Prussian blue-and-white photographs. You will learn how iron salts react to UV light, turning your personal objects into unique photographic prints. This workshop covers the fundamentals of the cyanotype process, from preparing the light-sensitive solution to proper exposure using sunlight, as well as basic developing techniques. No experience necessary—just curiosity about this beautiful intersection of art and science! Please bring 1-2 items of personal significance that hold meaning for you, with flat objects preferred. All other materials will be provided, and you will take home 1-2 finished pieces, along with newfound knowledge of one of photography's most enduring alternative processes.
