Description
Join local San Francisco visual artist Jason Houck for crash-course in making cyanotype prints! Cyanotypes are a simple, inexpensive photographic process that results in beautiful blue prints on paper, fabric and other materials. In this workshop you'll make your own cyanotype prints, and you'll have enough knowledge to make your own prints at home.
In this afternoon workshop you will learn how to:
- Set up a DIY fluorescent exposure unit to make prints at home
- Make digital negatives to use in contact prints
- Sensitize paper and fabric with cyanotype solution
- Make cyanotype prints, using the sun and using an exposure unit.
What to Bring?
Jason will supply printmaking paper, muslin and canvas to use for prints, as well as all the equipment necessary to make prints. You should bring:
- Flat-ish objects that you'd like to use in contact prints. Objects that have interesting patterns or a range of opacity work best (e.g. ferns, plastic mesh, fabric with patterns of holes)
- Digital image files that you would like to print.
- Special papers or fabrics on which you would like to print. Papers should be able to handle wet media (e.g. watercolor or printmaking paper).
Cost
$30, all materials included.
