Each session will feature the best of the blooms from Bedrock's own cutting garden. The ever-changing cutting garden will surprise you with new delights each time. During the class you'll learn about selecting color palettes, using greens and grasses and other creative approaches—all inspired by what’s in bloom. Bring a favorite vase from home (see below for details) and discover new ways to arrange flowers while soaking up the beauty of the gardens. This program is a great way to learn new arranging skills, make new friends, and head home with a beautiful and affordable bouquet.
Flower Arranging Dates:
July 9 with Erin Prawoko
During the July class, we will create an arrangement using various types of flower frogs in a low bowl/ vessel. Design will incorporate Ikebana style/ techniques with a maximalist spin on it. We will use flowers from our cutting garden and forage if necessary. Bring your own low profile vessel and pair of snips. Flower frogs provided.
August 13 with Erin Prawoko
August will feature techniques for making a tall vase centerpiece using what's in bloom. Participants should bring their own vessel (pitcher, vase, etc.), and a good pair of snips. The workshop will focus on using foliage for shape, structure, and framing. We will also explore techniques for foliage manipulation using vines, grasses and any other interesting greenery we find on the property.
September 10 with Ann Tarlton
Ann’s style is natural, using mostly what nature provides by foraging the fringes of parking lots and forests seeking out wild rushes, grasses, cattails, yarrow, choke cherry and whatever else is in season. Ann will guide participants on a short walk through the woods to find unusual foliage, flowers, sticks and other components that will truly makes each work a piece of art!
Tickets
$35 for members and $45 for nonmembers which includes a day pass to the gardens. Ticket includes the lesson and 20 cut flowers from our extensive and stunning cutting gardens -- $1 per additional stem if you are inspired to go flower crazy and make a huge bouquet or a second bouquet. Attendees should bring their own vases from home - see individual class details for suggested type of vase. Class is limited to 8 participants.
About the Designers
Erin Prawoko is in her second season as a Bedrock gardener. Prior to joining Bedrock, her work experience includes nursery/ greenhouse, farming and visual merchandising. She loves every aspect of gardening from seed starting, to harvesting and design. A real flower nerd.
Erin approaches the process of bouquet-making with a playful and whimsical touch - tapping into that childhood wonder is part of the craft. With a background in photography, she also applies principals of photographic composition when creating.
Ann Tarlton started her own wedding business called The Secret Garden in her 20s. She moved to NJ and joined a plant business, Living Windows, adding her wedding/party skills to what we provided. During that time Bruce Springsteen’s manager came into our store and asked if we might look over Bruce’s house and make some suggestions. We became his florist and eventually also installed a perennial garden and vegetable garden at his home.
After leaving Living Windows I went back to my Secret Garden wedding flowers for the rest of her career. She has been a member of the GCA, Garden Club of America, since the beginning and became a member of 3 different GCA clubs, the Stamford GC, the Rumson GC and the Piscataqua GC. She has been a GCA Flower Judge since 2004.
