Arts & Democracy and Naturally Occurring Cultural Districts NY (NOCD-NY) present Cultural Organizing for Community Change, a parallel in-person and virtual event on Sunday, May 21st!

Join fellow organizers, artists, media makers, and policy makers to learn effective ways to deepen your work and engage your creativity in organizing for community change. The day will include a cultural organizing framework, hands on skill building workshops, case studies from across NYC and beyond, and networking and resources.

If you can't join the full virtual event but would like to attend a workshop, register! We offer a reduced rate to attend a portion of the program: $5 (promo code "five" at ticket window).

Full day sliding scale fee for virtual event: $10, $25, $50. We rely on registration fees to cover workshop costs. We encourage organizations with means to contribute on the upper end of this scale. VIRTUAL BREAKOUT SESSION 1 (1:10 - 3:00pm)

Invisible Rivers with Nick Slie, Mondo Bizarro. Join theater artist Nick Slie for a session that investigates the rich interconnectedness between landscape, memory and place keeping. Participants will investigate the role of art in layering new visions upon and drawing attention to untold histories of familiar places.

Story-Sharing as Democratic Practice with Lizzy Cooper Davis. In this workshop, participants will engage with the history, core principles, and practice of the Story Circle Methodology and reflect on its value to our collective work for community change.

VIRTUAL BREAKOUT SESSION 2 (3:15 - 5:05pm)

This is what participatory democracy looks like! with Participatory Budgeting Project, Democracy Beyond Elections, and Art.coop. Explore what community-led decision-making looks like in practice across the globe, drawing connections to our own life and practice with some collaborative zine making.

We strive to host inclusive and accessible events that enable all individuals to engage fully. We will provide CART captioning for the morning.
