Event description

Description

A one-time tour of the CSULB campus will provide an overview of the university's Modern buildings and landscape.

Founded in 1949 as Long Beach State College, the school grew quickly and land was purchased for a permanent campus two years later. Local architect Hugh Gibbs was commissioned to design a master plan in 1951 and the firm of Killingsworth, Brady, and Associates updated the plan a decade later.

The campus is an extraordinary collection of buildings by local Modern architects that span several decades. This tour will explore these resources and the landscape in which they are integrated, including the recently restored sculptures from the 1965 symposium that was part of the second master plan.

Join us for this one-time offering as part of our focus on the importance of Modernism in Long Beach. A limited number of tickets are available and advance reservations are recommended.

Hosted parking will be availabe and further instructions will be mailed to attendees.
