Audiences pay for a show where they’ve become the ones doing the work, like a self-checkout lane of comedy. Meanwhile, comedians rake in millions of views and tour the world off the back of the “common man.”

Reality-show mentality has taken over stand-up. How did we get here?

Filippo Spreafico is a comedian and musician active between Italy and the rest of the world. He has performed on stages across four continents, from the Edinburgh, Melbourne, and Adelaide Fringe Festivals to the Comedy Store in London and the New York Comedy Club.
