Dragon Crab and Turtle is pleased to present Cross Dissolve, a group exhibition curated by Mark Allen opening November 8, at its landmark St. Louis exhibition space. Bringing together 50 artists, the show highlights a wide-ranging roster from Kansas City alongside voices from New York, Chicago, Miami, and LA.

The title Cross Dissolve borrows from the language of video editing, describing the moment when one frame overlays another, gradually merging into a new image. Allen takes this idea as a curatorial metaphor, focusing on artists who occupy a similar in-between space – blurring mediums, collapsing conceptual frameworks, and fusing disparate systems of communication.

The works on view stretch across a wide spectrum of experimentation: from painters who treat the computer screen as an extension of the canvas, to photographers manipulating chromogenic paper with painterly alchemy; others reconfigure the visual logic of advertising into the realm of fine art, pushing familiar images into new contexts. Together, these practices generate a fertile zone of overlap, producing works that are at once disruptive and compelling, and that invite viewers to linger in the spaces between categorization.

The artists included in this exhibition: Jasper Adkins, Craig Deppen Auge, Steph Becker & Hadley Clark, Dana-Marie Bullock, Jill Burrow, Madeline Brice, Elaine Buss, Lydia Bryan, Caranne Camarena, Jason Comotto, Jessica Csanky, Celina Curry, Jackson Daughety, Annie Diemer, Astrid Dick, Anson DeOrnery, Paul Fiore, Kim Foster, Elise Gagliardi, Madeline Gallucci, Austin Taylor Hall, Kathryn Hogan, Lauren Anaïs Hussey, Tanith K., Quinn Kavanaugh, Eve Krahn, Adam Lavigne, Paul Loughney, Kylie McConnell, Sean Nash, Christie Nelson, Lydia Nobles, Garry Noland, Philo Northrup, Elinore Noyes, Sun Young Park, Sally Paul, Shelly Pinto, Emily Blair Quinn, K.
