About this event
In a moment of unchecked, unregulated, and environmentally devastating growth of AI, we are inviting technologists and community members to consider the social and political implications of tech tools. We know technology can offer us a different path and we invite you to imagine with us. Join us for a set of 3 FREE critical conversations on artificial intelligence. If you've been yearning for a space to have open dialogue about AI, this is it!
Workshop Dates
When you reserve a spot, you are reserving a spot to all 3 workshops. All workshops will be held online on Zoom, to be emailed to you after registering with Google Cal invites.
Over the course of three sessions, participants will:
- Learn about the history of AI, its varied uses, and its impacts today in a popular education style format where we gather the expertise in the room and engage in open dialogue to look at the history and uses of AI critically together (disagreements encouraged!)
- Learn to think critically about AI: what problems does it seek to solve? Is it actually solving those problems? What do we gain when we use AI? What do we lose? Who is it benefitting? Who is it not?
- Share skills and resources for shaping (or perhaps, slowing down? stopping?) the development of AI as well as explore any existing modes of resistance to AI
- Envision just technological futures together
We invite students, technologists, community members, organizers, and all those who care about the impacts of technology to join us! This is a workshop series that is open to all to encourage a diverse dialogue.
Spots are limited to encourage depth and intimacy of conversation and connection amongst the cohort. Please register as soon as possible!
Frequently asked questions
To encourage depth of dialogue, we do encourage attendance to all three and we will not be recording sessions, as participants will be engaging in discussion together and we want to encourage an open dialogue.
Yes! These workshops are set up so that anyone can be a part of the discussion and in fact, the more diverse the group, the more fruitful the discussion! We encourage technologists, coders, non-coders, community members, students, etc to join!
Each session builds on the previous one and includes time to work in small groups together toward a small project -- missing a session is not encouraged for this reason. We ask that if you register that you prioritize attending each session.
We'll share that closer to the launch of the first workshop!
