Crime Scene Documentation- Doylestown, PA
Overview
Course Purpose
The purpose of this course is to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of crime scene documentation through photography and sketching. Accurate and thorough documentation is a critical component of any investigation and often plays a decisive role in case analysis, prosecution, and courtroom presentation.
This course delivers practical, real-world instruction on how to properly document crime scenes, physical evidence, and involved persons using accepted best practices and standardized methods. Participants will learn how high-quality documentation preserves the integrity of the scene, supports investigative findings, and withstands legal scrutiny.
Course Overview
Participants will receive detailed instruction on the proper equipment, techniques, and procedures used when photographing and sketching a crime scene. Emphasis is placed on the correct use of cameras, evidence markers, and measurement scales to ensure accuracy and consistency when documenting evidence.
The course will cover systematic approaches to crime scene photography, including the importance of capturing images in a logical sequence—overall, mid-range, and close-up views—to clearly show the relationship between the scene, evidence, and surroundings. Instruction will also address proper lighting, composition, and camera positioning to ensure photographs accurately represent what was observed at the scene.
In addition to photography, participants will learn the fundamentals of crime scene sketching, including scene layout, measurements, and diagram accuracy. These skills are essential when photographs alone cannot fully capture spatial relationships or scene dimensions.
