Join museum educators Alexa Clavijo and Becca Drew Ramsey for an interactive session on tinkering and making techniques with early learners. Discover how to integrate design thinking and engineering principles into your artistic practice, focusing on open-ended, learner-led approaches. Learn how to scaffold the engineering process to support young learners in exploring, experimenting, and problem-solving through hands-on activities. Walk away with strategies to foster creativity and critical thinking, encouraging children to design, build, and innovate.
About the Facilitators:
Alexa Clavijo believes that play is the most powerful tool for learning—it sparks curiosity, fuels creativity, and opens the door to joyful discovery. As a Play and Learning Leader (and a proud maker of messes and magic), she designs hands-on, inquiry-driven experiences that invite learners of all ages to explore, experiment, and create. Whether we’re building, tinkering, or imagining the impossible, she's all about making space for big ideas, tiny hands, and endless possibilities.
Becca Drew Ramsey is a storyteller, maker, and advocate for playful learning. With an MFA in Drama and Theatre for Youth and Communities from UT Austin, she is the Director of Learning Experience at Thinkery, Austin’s Children's Museum. Becca Drew designs interactive experiences that ignite curiosity and inspire creative thinking for children and families.
This project is supported in part by the City of Austin Economic Development Department.
