In this six-week course, instructor Aaron Brame and participants will examine the cultural and literary significance of Rod Serling’s groundbreaking anthology television series, The Twilight Zone, through six of its most affecting episodes.
We will view a classic episode from the series in each class and hold lively conversations about the themes, subject matter, and conflicts in the narratives. Along the way, we will read relevant texts to complement the episodes and to enrich our class discussions and activities.
We will read scripts of the episodes and essays from other Twilight Zone scholars, as well as historical texts from the time period that shed light on the cultural anxieties that Serling pinpointed so powerfully in his art.
This class will meet on Mondays from 1-3pm at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library on 4.10, 4.17, 4.24; 5.1, 5.15, 5.22. Please note that there will be no class on 5.8.
This FREE course is made possible in partnership with the Memphis Public Libraries and supported by the Tennessee Arts Commission.
