Event description
This is the third part of our event series that caters to women that are interested in learning more about a career in technology and code.

About this Event

(Note: this is part three of a six part series for women that are interested in learning more about the world of software engineering. If you didn’t attend our two events, no problem -- please join us!)

ABOUT THIS EVENT

Have you ever wanted to build your own website? Or are you interested in learning to program but are not sure where to start?

Then this event is for you!

HTML is the cornerstone of web development and a great place to begin if you’re interested in learning to code.

In this third part of our event series that caters to women that have yet to explore the world of technology and code, we will take our first step into the world of web development and explore one of the building blocks of the web: HTML!

This event will see that you leave with an understanding of the basics of HTML (the language used by every webpage out there) and you’ll even create your first webpage.

What we will cover:

Introduction to HTML — What is it? Why does it matter?

History of HTML — How does it interact with the browser?

Layout of an HTML page — html, head, body

HTML elements — paragraphs, lists, divs, spans

Basic inline styling — font color, background

PREREQUISITES

Attendees are not expected to have any previous HTML or programming experience.

TECH REQUIREMENTS

Your laptop

A modern web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari)

A text editor - we recommend Visual Studio Code (free)

ABOUT THE SERIES

Whether you've always been curious as to what software engineers do or are looking to explore what a pivot into tech might look like, this series will leave no stone unturned.

We will meet weekly (on Thursdays) until March, with sessions on other aspects of software engineering, such as the path to becoming a software engineer, as well as the basics of CSS, HTML and JavaScript. Finally, during our last event, attendees will use the knowledge gained and launch their first application.

Join us! We look forward to seeing you at all of them!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

To make signing in at the door easier - please sign up via Eventbrite to let us know you're coming.
