The Government Alliance on Race and Equity defines racial equity as “when race can no longer be used to predict life outcomes and outcomes for all groups are improved.”
There has been some good work started by the governments in the DMV to advance racial equity in their policies, programs and operations. Such work can impact budgeting, policy development, evaluation, collaboration and community engagement. In July 2020, the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (MWCOG) approved a resolution stating that racial equity is a fundamental MWCOG value. Many of the local governments created Racial Equity Officers or Equity Officers to help guide and advance racial equity in their programs, policies and community.
The presenters for the November 17th event will discuss the specific racial equity work going on at a regional level through MWCOG and in Fairfax County.
