Description

Everyone has a story to tell. Many people understand the importance of capturing their stories and sharing their experiences with family and friends, but need help navigating these issues. Collaborating with a filmmaker can provide a structure for making the process more manageable and result in a professional final product. Each resulting project can be as unique as every combination of filmmaker and subject. In this session, story facilitator Ronda Barrett will describe the best practices she has developed during her career and discuss the variety of projects and approaches to life stories.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER


RONDA BARRETT

Ronda Barrett is a producer and story facilitator who has helped families and organizations capture their stories for over 20 years. Ever since her efforts in the mid-90s to help pregnant ​HIV-positive women to document their stories for their children, Ronda has been focused on the stories of everyday people. After working for years telling the organizational stories of her clients at a DC marketing firm, in 2003 she was inspired to return to individual and family stories. She hit the road, travelling to Syria to document the personal stories of Damascus residents and returned to the states to tackle her own family history trove. She established Honor Your Story and has been helping people to document their stories ever since. As featured in The Washington Post, she is part of an international effort to promote the benefits of capturing personal histories. She encourages everyone to determine the best approach to their life story and not delay actually doing it.

Click the "Register Now" button towards the top of the page. Because of limited space (maximum 6 participants on our workstations plus we can accommodate two more using your laptops), advanced registration is highly recommended.


NOTE ON PAYMENT

Full payment must be received to guarantee you a spot in the class. In order to get the discounted earlybird rate, full payment must be RECEIVED by the earlybird date. Otherwise the regular rate will be charged.

REFUND POLICY

If your circumstances change and you must withdraw from a class after registering, please be aware of our refund policy:

Withdrawal 30 or more calendar days before the first day of a program: 75% refund

Withdrawal 11-29 calendar days before the first day of a program: 50% refund

Withdrawal 10 or fewer calendar days before a program: No refund


WEATHER POLICY

In the event of seriously inclement weather, we will make a decision by 3 pm on whether to cancel that evening’s programs. (For Saturday classes, we will make the decision by 6 pm on Friday). If you have not received a notification from your instructor or the Educational Programs Manager, call our office at 301-789-2797 (we will have an outgoing message on voicemail).
