Creating a Zero-Waste Sporting Event
Overview
Sporting events have a large impact on our communities. This webinar will look at these impacts and assist with ways to make your events more sustainably focused. The industry is changing through the promotion of healthy and sustainable communities. Sports leagues, franchises, colleges, teams, venues, and events are looking to embrace environmental programs: energy and water conservation, recycling and zero waste programs, sustainable purchasing, carbon tracking, and environmentally friendly practices.
For this webinar, UF/IFAS Extension Sarasota County will be joined by a special guest: Riley Bahr, National Sustainability Program manager for Blue Strike Environmental’s National Events Division.
As an expert in sustainable events, Riley will discuss:
- her background and experience in sustainability and sports;
- how to plan and execute a zero-waste event;
- conducting waste audits and understanding diversion strategies;
- writing procurement policies for sustainable practices;
- addressing greenhouse gas emissions in the event space;
- best practices for sustainability reporting; and
- building partnerships for future sustainability-focused events.
