Event description
ENRICH & REVITALIZE YOUR PRECIOUS BOND – GROW TOGETHER IN FAITH through this engaging marriage enhancement workshop for Christian couples.

About this Event

Are you longing for a richer connection in your marriage? Are you wanting to nurture God's gift of love in your bond, but find the "how-to" just doesn't stick? Do you feel you want to be understood but can’t quite explain it? Do you ever tell yourself “here we go again” as you bump into the same issues without a satisfying resolution? Are you unable to get beyond an old injury that comes up every time you have an argument? Rediscover deep connection, joy, and grace in your marriage through this evidenced-based workshop with a biblical worldview.

What it's all about:

ALL couples, including loving Christian husband and wives, get disconnected at times. Created for Connection: The Hold Me Tight ® Program for Christian Couples is an engaging marriage workshop based on a biblical worldview and research-based attachment science. You will learn how to understand and improve your relationship through presentations by the workshop leaders, private exercises, and conversations with your partner, and by watching video demonstrations of other couples.

There is no greater love than Christ’s sacrifice for us. What you can now learn is that the new science of romantic love—of adult attachment— perfectly parallels and echoes Christ’s loving example and gift to us. This workshop is designed to help you face fear that leads to disconnection and utilize the roadmap for love laid out in scriptures and science.

Facilitators:

This workshop will be led by therapists Rebecca Clark, LMFT, and Linda Ware, LICSW, who are both certified in the evidenced-based Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples. You and your spouse will learn a reliable roadmap back to day-by-day restoration and ongoing care of the intimate, marital bond that Christ models for us.

Focus and Format:

In this workshop, videos, lectures, and one-on-one exercises create opportunities to:

• Recognize the negative patterns where ALL couples get stuck and how Scripture and, now, science shows the way back.

• Understand what actually drives conflict in relationships

• Explore the feelings and true needs underneath your behaviors

• Find forgiveness, heal past hurts, and move forward in grace

• Communicate to develop deeper understanding and closeness

• Regain a shared vision for your marriage's sexual and emotional intimacy.

• Use this roadmap to submit your relationship needs, fears, and longings to Christ and each other

Premise:

The message of CREATED FOR CONNECTION is simple:

"Forget about learning how to argue better, analyzing your early childhood, or making grand romantic gestures. Instead, get to the emotional underpinnings of your relationship by recognizing that you are attached to and dependent on your partner in much the same way that a child is on a parent, and we are on the Heavenly Father, for nurturing, soothing, and protection."

Science is discovering something that God has modeled for us along. The road to deeper connection is emotional vulnerability, accessibility, and responsiveness. Come to this engaging and fun workshop to invest and nurture your most precious relationship.

Testimonials about Created for Connection and Hold Me Tight®

"After 20 years of marriage, we reached a place in life where we realized that we had adopted some unhealthy communication patterns. We were very committed to our marriage and to one another, but we did not know how to begin to break some of our old familiar cycles... Created for Connection gave us a common language by which we could talk about our communication patterns...The process was difficult at times, but it was so valuable. Our marriage is at a place now where conversations that once felt unsafe can now be had with greater ease. Thank you to Rebecca and Created for Connection."

“The workshop digs deeper beyond communication strategies. It reminds you that all couples experience this and gives you a meaningful, skillful way to address the emotions underlying the superficial issues that drive the poor communications.”

“This workshop was a great segue into my wife and I being able to reconnect emotionally and physically and fall deeper in love with each other.”

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is a “Hold Me Tight®” / Created for Connection Workshop?

Hold Me Tight® is an educational workshop based on the best-selling book by Dr. Sue Johnson, Hold Me Tight: Seven Conversations for a Lifetime of Love and Created for Connection: The "Hold Me Tight" Guide for Christian Couples by Dr. Sue Johnson with Kenneth Sanderfer. The structured curriculum used in this workshop is based on the theory and practice of Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT). EFT is a systematic, effective approach based on relationship science that aims to reduce relationship distress and help couples create trust and intimacy.

In this relationship enhancement workshop, you will learn how to identify and change the negative cycles that get in the way of intimacy, make sense of emotions, and restore trust and safety in your relationship.

What will we actually do at the workshop?

The heart of the workshop revolves around several exercises where you will practice conversations to create closeness.

The workshop leaders will present information about love and attachment to help you make sense of the cycles of disconnection in which couples often find themselves. We will also show videos of actual couples working through common cycles of conflict. At regular intervals, we will ask you to privately engage in structured conversations with your spouse regarding your particular cycle. Workshop leaders, as well as other trained facilitators, will offer assistance with these exercises. At times during the weekend, we will assemble as a group and offer the opportunity to discuss your experience with the exercises. This group sharing is optional and no one is required at any time to share with the group.

Is this workshop right for us?

This workshop focuses on health and growth. It is geared for Christian husband and wives looking to understand their patterns of communication and improve their bond. Our goal is to help make sense of the strong emotions or distancing that happens when there is disconnection in your marriage. When loving, married couples get stuck in the same old fights, we compassionately view this as a wish for closeness, a feeling of being misunderstood, or attempts to manage the pain of loneliness. We are not trying to find out “who’s to blame,” but instead focusing on “how do we restore or deepen the connection?”

Who is this workshop not appropriate for?

This workshop is not appropriate for:

  • Couples engaged in domestic violence or where there is the threat of harm
  • Couples who are actively engaged with untreated addiction issues
  • Couples who are actively engaged in an affair

We recommend that couples in these situations seek other support before attending this workshop.

If you have any questions regarding the appropriateness of this workshop for yourself or your spouse, please contact one of our workshop facilitators:

How should we prepare for the workshop?

We recommend reading Created for Connection: The "Hold Me Tight" Guide for Christian Couples before the workshop to get the most from the experience. Reading Part 1 of this book will give you an overview of the science of love, attachment, and relationships. However, reading this book is not required. The workshop is self-explanatory and will make sense even if you don’t get a chance to read it.
