Join ARTE for a four-part art-making workshop focusing on human rights and social justice. Participants will learn and/or gain:

• Knowledge around the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), the world's most important human rights document;
• More about the Universal Periodic Review, a process to hold the U.S. accountable to its international human rights obligations;
• An opportunity to create art that will be compiled into a human rights zine;
• A chance to make new friends from across New York City, eat snacks, and have fun!

This workshop is proudly co-sponsored the U.S. Human Rights Network and made accessible to the public by the Citizens Committee for New York City.

DATES

There are four workshops facilitated by a guest artist. We strongly recommend participants attending all of them in order to get the most out of the series, but participants can sign up for as many as they want. The workshop dates are the following:

• Saturday, January 11th, 2-4pm
• Saturday, January 18th, , 2-4pm
• Saturday, January 25th, 2-4pm
• Saturday, February 1st, 2-4pm

COST

The workshop is FREE. Please note that this will be a multigenerational workshop. Young people and their family members are welcome to attend together. Guardians should be aware of the diverse age range of attendees. All young people under the age of 18 must RSVP in advance and have parental/guardian consent prior to attending. Snacks will be provided. We can provide a limited number of MetroCards for youth under the age of 18 who might need transportation support!

Workshop location is at the Williamsburg Library (240 Division Avenue, Brooklyn, NY, 11211), on the basement floor.

CULMINATING COMMUNITY EVENT

All workshop participants will be invited to participate in a culminating community event in 2020 (more details forthcoming).

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

This is a multigenerational workshop.

Please note that any participant 18 years or younger will be required to sign a permission slip from their parent/guardian in advance to the workshop. All participants will be asked to sign a photo release form at the workshop.

Do I have to be an artist already to participate?

No, you do not have to be an artist! This workshop is for any one who is interested in art, regardless at what artistic level they may be at!

Do I have to attend all four workshops?

No, you don't have to attend all four workshops, but we strongly recommend that you do, so that you get the most out of the experience!

What's a zine, anyways?

A zine is an independently self-published magazine. They are created in a variety of different ways, including made by hand drawings or even cutting and gluing images together. To learn more about zines, please check this out. After the workshop series is completed, ARTE will be working with a graphic designer to put the zine together, based on the creations of the participants!
