About this event
Sketch it! Paint it. Frame it. Gift it... Just don’t sauté it!
Amanda McIntyre (Kula’s Creative Director and the genius behind the Oh Crimini! Kula Cloth) is teaching you how to paint one of the most famous mushrooms in the world: the Amanita. Beautiful? Yes. Iconic? Absolutely. Safe to snack on? Not unless you’d like your afternoon to get very, very weird.
Amanda will guide you step-by-step through sketching, layering, and painting those unmistakable red caps with white spots. By the end of class, you’ll have a masterpiece that’s far less toxic and far more frameable than the real thing.
This is an interactive session where you can ask questions, share your progress, and learn Amanda’s favorite tricks for bringing dangerously beautiful art to life.
What you’ll get:
- Step-by-step guidance from a professional artist
- Live feedback and the chance to connect with other creative humans
- A finished piece of art that’s uniquely yours and drop dead beautiful
- Opportunity to Paint with Amanda
What to Bring to Class:
- Watercolor paper (5x7, 8x10, or cut from a 9x12 pad—140 lb, cold press, ideally 25% cotton or higher)
- Brushes: Size 12 round + a liner brush
- Watercolor paints: Bring a variety of colors to play - from Crayola to Winsor & Newton
- Pencil + eraser
- Frisket (or white acrylic paint) for the spots
Other Helpful Items
- Towel or paper towels: for watercolor and brush cleaning
- Water: 2-3 cups should do
- Mixing palette: ceramic or a white kitchen plate works great!
- Clipboard: for taping down your paper
- Painter’s tape: to prevent warping
Bring your supplies, curiosity, and maybe a cozy beverage. By the end, you’ll have artwork worth hanging—or gifting to a fellow mushroom lover.
Kula Creative Director, Amanda McIntyre
Graphic Designer, Textile Designer/Illustrator and Fine Artist
Amanda Nicole McIntyre is a Denville NJ, artist living in Rainbow Lakes. Painting since childhood, she always loved to capture the beauty of nature. Amanda is inspired by the birds, foxes, and bears that pass through her backyard. The rolling hills, wildflowers, and mountains of New England are always a source of inspiration. Amanda is newly love-struck for the mountains of the PNW after a work trip to Kula Cloth headquarters. Nature is her muse and she sees the world in brush strokes. She works with Acrylics, Oils, and Watercolors.
During the day, Amanda is the Creative Director for an outdoor gear company called, Kula Cloth®. She also does seasonal freelance design work, including work for Buddy Valastro, The Cake Boss. Amanda juggles her work as a designer, artist, and the role of primary caretaker for her 6-year-old son.
When she's not painting, you can find her hiking with her family and friends, baking biscotti in her kitchen, or making homemade sauce and meatballs for Sunday dinner.
