On October 1, 2023, there were 3,300 active postings for computing jobs in Kentucky with an average salary of $64K - $25K more than the $39K average salary of all jobs in the Commonwealth.

Yet, in 2021:

Kentucky community college graduates earned 358 computer science associate degrees
587 computer science bachelor's degrees were earned in Kentucky's public universities.
40% of computer science industry certifications earned by Kentucky high school students prepared them for careers in graphic design - the most negative growth job in Kentucky's tech sector.

In 2022, the Kentucky General Assembly passed House Bill 680 to increase Kentucky's competitiveness in the tech sector with creation of a statewide, virtual computer science career academy offering all Kentucky high school students the opportunity to earn 18-21 hours of college credit toward degrees in programming, data science, cybersecurity, and software development.

We Lead CS will open statewide in the 2024-2025 school year following a two-year pilot at iLEAD Academy in Carrollton, Kentucky.

The U.S. Department of Education selected a proposal from iLEAD Academy and 75 of America's leading tech employers in the INTERalliance of Greater Cincinnati as one of the five most innovative ideas in the nation to expand rural students' access to computer science education.
