This workshop, "Cracking the Code: Grant Writing for Beginners", is designed to demystify the grant writing process and equip you with the essential tools and knowledge you need to start writing successful grant proposals.

In this hands-on workshop, you'll embark on an exploration of the grant landscape, uncovering the steps needed to confidently navigate the grant application process, including:

- Getting acquainted with different types of grant funders, including government agencies, foundations, and corporations, and understand their priorities and expectations.

- Learning how to research and identify funding opportunities that align with your organization's mission and project needs.

- Learning how to turn your project idea into a strong proposal that highlights the need and potential impact.

- Understanding the typical components of a grant proposal, including crafting a clear problem statement, defining measurable objectives, developing a detailed budget, and outlining evaluation plans.

This workshop is ideal for staff and volunteers of nonprofits, community organizations, educational institutions, or local government agencies, as well as individuals who are new to the field of grant writing. You'll gain the confidence and skills needed to effectively secure grant funding for your organization's valuable work.

Presenter: Michelle Nusum-Smith is owner and principal consultant at The Word Woman LLC. A licensed consultant, coach and trainer, Michelle helps nonprofits, government agencies, and individuals develop the skills, knowledge, and resources to achieve their goals and further their missions. With over 30 years of nonprofit experience, she has expertise in organizational development and leadership, board development, program development, financial management, fundraising, and community relations. Michelle has raised nearly $500 million writing winning grant and contract proposals for nonprofits and government agencies. She is licensed to offer consulting services for the Maryland Nonprofit’s Standards for Excellence® program and has the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to work with nonprofit organizations across the country interested in learning about and implementing the Standards for Excellence code. Michelle has extensive speaker and facilitator experience, including regional and national conferences and strategic planning and fundraising planning retreats. A graduate of the Honors Program at Coppin State University where she earned a BS in Management Science with a minor in Marketing, Michelle is a member of the Grant Professionals Association and an Associate Consultant at Maryland Nonprofits. She is actively involved in numerous charities and community activities.
