Overview

This presentation is for clinicians, professionals, and trainees focusing on grief and loss associated with infertility and pregnancy loss. Additionally, we will focus on understanding the psychological, emotional and social impact of fertility-related challenges associated with perinatal grief, explore how grief is experienced or expressed, and discuss treatment approaches for supporting individuals with grief and loss.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe the unique psychological, emotional, and social challenges associated with infertility and pregnancy loss.
  2. Identify how grief is expressed and processed from a relational framework
  3. Discuss at least two therapeutic strategies for coping with perinatal grief and loss.

Presenter

Dr. Shannique Richards is a licensed clinical psychologist and Instructor in Medical Psychology in Psychiatry at Columbia University Irving Medical Center and New York-Presbyterian Hospital. She provides clinical care within the Department of Psychiatry.

Dr. Richards has extensive experience in hospital, community mental health, and university counseling settings. Her clinical interests include women’s mental health, perinatal and reproductive mental health, trauma, and stress-related conditions. She earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from The City University of New York, City College, and completed both her predoctoral internship and postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Psychiatry at Lenox Hill Hospital, where she received specialized training in reproductive mental health.

Currently, we do not keep transcripts of continuing education event attendance. It is the responsibility of the attendee to properly save their certificate of attendance and track their event attendance.

Please note that in order to receive your continuing education certificate, you must attend the entire duration of the workshop and complete the evaluation survey. Refunds are not provided for late arrivals or early departures.

Certificates of completion for CEs will be distributed via email, within 7 days of the event, to those meeting the attendance requirements.
