About Jane Ferguson

Jane Ferguson has covered nearly every war front and humanitarian crisis of our time. She reported from Yemen as protests grew into the Arab Spring; she secured rare access to rebel-held Syria where foreign journalists were banned, and she was one of the last Western journalists to remain in Afghanistan when the Taliban claimed Kabul in 2021.

In July 2023, Ferguson published her first book, No Ordinary Assignment, which became a national bestseller. It has been described by The New York Times as "engrossing" and "writing with the kind of intimate knowledge that is prized by novelists and historians." The book was awarded the 2024 Ann M. Sperber Book Prize from Fordham University.

In 2024, Ferguson founded Noosphere, a media tech company creating online monetization platforms for journalists and high quality content creators.

Previously, Ferguson was a special correspondent for PBS NewsHour where she covered the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia extensively as a war reporter. Ferguson has also contributed analysis and reports to The New Yorker.
