We are excited to announce The Nerd Club's February event: Conversations with AI!

You may have heard how the artificial intelligence (AI) company, OpenAI, made a splash late last year on the release of its newest AI chatbot, ChatGPT. Over a million users have been testing the limits of ChatGPT and receiving a mixture of reactions and this shaped many conversations in business and academic fields.

This one’s for you if:

You have been experimenting with ChatGPT for weeks now and glued to all the media about how it is being applied in the world.
You’re excited about how much time and energy you’ll get back when you outsource parts of your job to a robot
You’re worried about what ChatGPT means for your kids’ education, your job, or even your profession as a whole
You have no idea what ChatGPT is

The Nerd Club’s own Serena Nath, who has over 20 years of experience in AI and has actually built language processing models, is going to give us a short 15-minute overview of what ChatGPT is and how it works, then we’ll try it out! Register in advance at https://chat.openai.com/ - it only takes a few minutes and it’s free. Bring your laptop or tablet so we can play, share, and learn together.

Normally, we work hard on a description for these events, but felt it was appropriate to let the robot handle it, and here’s what we got :

We'll have experts on hand to lead the conversation and answer any questions you might have. Plus, there will be plenty of time to socialize, meet new people, and enjoy some light refreshments.

Things the robot didn’t know (or did it?):

Tickets are $15 to cover the cost of the venue. If there is capacity, tickets will be available at the door!
The taproom and bottle shop will be open, along with a full bar. Alcoholic drinks are only $8 and non-alcoholic drinks are $5.
Food will be available for purchase from Gaucho Pie Co (Sweet Potato, Pulled Pork, or Chicken Empanadas for $8) or you order your favourite delivery to the venue or bring your own food.
The venue is wheelchair accessible with gender neutral restrooms

As usual, there are no prerequisites - just come! Newbies, experts, and everyone in between are welcome. If you do want to brush up on ChatGPT before the event, thenerdclub.ca website has a curated list of links with foundational knowledge in several formats, so pick your favourite way to learn and get your nerd game on.

I know the Society Clubhouse as an official member of the Society of Beer Drinking Ladies. The co-founders Erica and Jaime started the Society in 2014 with the goal of creating safe spaces for women to enjoy beer. In 2021 they set-up a physical space and are looking forward to hosting us in February. The Society Clubhouse is a women-owned, community-driven space that includes a taproom, bottle shop, artisan market, and event space.

The Nerd Club is an inclusive space for women and non-binary folks who are working in, interested in or curious about new and emerging technologies and their impact on people, societies and the environment. We get together in Toronto (mostly) and get excited about nerdy stuff, connect with like-minded people, learn, debate, and challenge ourselves. Each month has a theme such as AI, robots, crypto, IoT, Smart Cities, the Metaverse, wearables, biohacking, ethics, and endless other possibilities. We choose a format (speaker, demo, book discussion, film screening, etc) and a date (generally the second Wednesday of the month) and gather for laughs, drinks, and learning.
