This program brings together the rising voices of American youth and the seasoned insight of David J. Firestein. As inaugural President and CEO of the George H. W. Bush Foundation for U.S.–China Relations, Firestein will deliver a keynote, America’s Changing Strategic Assumptions about China: Implications for the Bilateral Relationship,” exploring the opportunities and challenges shaping this pivotal relationship.

A panel of young Americans reflect on how their generation views the evolving U.S. – China relationship, sharing aspirations, concerns, as well as some first-hand experience in both countries that highlight the role of youth in shaping the future of cross-cultural understanding.


6:30 – 7:00 PM | Keynote Address by David J. Firestein
David J. Firestein will deliver a keynote address drawing on decades of experience as a diplomat, educator, and thought leader. Firestein, widely recognized for his pragmatic and accessible analyses, will outline the opportunities and challenges that define this pivotal relationship.


7:00 – 7:30 PM | In Conversation
A moderated dialogue between David J. Firestein and Susan Yuqing Feng, Program Director of China Institute, also bringing youth perspective into the conversation, followed by Q&A with the audience.


This unique evening promises to bridge generations, offering young people the rare chance to engage directly with one of America’s leading voices on U.S.–China affairs while situating their perspective within a broader cultural and global context.
