Constructing An Anti-Diet Framework With A Therapeutic Lens In Mind

The Diet Framework demands rigid adherence, but without the science to support it, it relies on social methods of control to bring us into unquestioning total submission. Simply knowing that diets don’t work doesn’t help you, or your client, to actually reject the diet mentality or build up resistance to Diet Culture and its internalized weight stigma. For that, you need a deeper understanding of the Diet Framework.

This training picks apart the Diet Framework to reveal it’s hidden patterns, impossible expectations, social taboos and normalized harms. Without this knowledge, your clients fall victim to Diet Culture's lies and blame themselves. Internalized weight stigma and the personal responsibility narrative of health lead us to isolate in shame. That's where you come in.

As a Mental Health Professional, you are well-positioned to be the safe harbor and well-informed champion for your client.

This training equips you with:

  • The language to communicate the harms and limitations of the Diet Framework
  • The pieces you need to construct your own Anti-Diet Framework and help your clients begin to imagine their own
  • One thing you can start doing today to help your clients begin to get free from the Diet Framework

Frequently asked questions

What is Anti-Diet?

Anti-Diet is a weight neutral approach to health, food, body and exercise that rejects the Diet Mentality and the entire Diet Framework. It is based on the research showing the ineffectiveness of weight loss and the futility of spending our lives hyper-focused on our food and weight.

Does this training include a Q&A?

Yes! This 90 minute training includes a Q&A time for questions and answers.

Is this training only for Christian Mental Health Professionals?

No. All Mental Health Professionals are welcome! As a Christian Intuitive Eating Coach, I provide lots of other resources for Mental Health Professionals that are rooted in Scripture and backed by research. You can find those resources at Eat-Intuit.com/mentalhealth.

I'm Damara. A Christian Intuitive Eating Coach. That means that I help Christians heal their relationship with their food, body and exercise. In large part this looks like healing from the diet mentality and building resilience to Diet Culture I do this through Intuitive Eating Coaching, teaching and providing resources. My Anti-Diet, weight inclusive, anti-stigma approach is rooted in Scripture and backed by research.

Intuitive Eating is an Anti-Diet way of relating to our food, body and exercise. It encourages people to have a relaxed, personal and peaceful relationship with their food, body and exercise by reconnecting with their bodies and emotions and make food choices based on inner attunement - hunger and satisfaction cues. This is in contrast to the more common Diet Framework which expects people to make food and exercise choices based on external Diet Culture rules. These rules claim to lead people in the pursuit of thinness and therefore health, but which actually foster weight stigma and cause mental, emotional, relational and physical harm.

Another big way that I help people from is by helping Mental Health Professionals become safer, more effective, supports for their clients who struggle in their relationship with their food, body and exercise. I believe Mental Health Professionals are perfectly positioned to be safe harbors and well-informed champions for their clients who struggle in these areas.
