About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

This intensive experiential learning course (meeting once a month for nine months) is designed for healthcare professionals, birth workers, health policy agents, administrators, researchers, educators, consumer rights and birth justice advocates, organizers, CBOs, funders and birthing people. You will gain a practical understanding of the multifaceted and intersecting impacts of interpersonal and structural racism as it impacts birth outcomes and construct practical strategies for personal growth and systemic transformation. If you are involved anywhere along the birth care/reproductive health continuum, and you are frustrated by the changes you see occuring, this course is for you. Expect a scholarly examination of the issues that create health inequities, a historical overview, challenging and practical insights from real world learning, guest lectures from experts in the field from across the nation, all presented through a womanist lens from a leading expert in Black Maternal Health. This is the course no institution would dare to offer in today's climate, but one that is needed to make real and lasting positive change. Be prepared for enlightening lectures, thought provoking discussions, stimulating reading and homework assignments, but no tests! Transfomation of your lives and work environments will be the test.
