Considering Matthew Shepard

Friday, March 13, 2026, 7:00 p.m.

Musica Atlantica; George Fergus, artistic director

Heralded as a “modern-day Passion,” this transformative modern work reaches beyond the tragedy of Shepard’s death to search for peace, understanding, and forgiveness.

More than a timely and poignant memorial for its namesake, the enduring art of Considering Matthew Shepard is its power to reawaken and renew our love and compassion for one another, regardless of race, gender, orientation, or religion, -- and, its underlying invitation for us to consider our call to stand for love, forgiveness, understanding, and justice in our communities and the world.

We are proud to present Tharros Place as our community partner for this concert. Tharros Place provides support and shelter for survivors of human trafficking by providing residential services for girls between the ages of 12 and 17. Tharros, meaning courage in Greek, is the motivating force for survivors which allows them to envision the future that they desire for themselves. You can learn more, get involved, and donate to Tharros Place's mission at the concert.

CONTENT WARNING: Matthew Shepard was the victim of a hate crime, and much hate was directed towards him, his family, and his legacy for many years after his death. This musical work deals with that reality in an unflinching fashion, using exact quotes from groups such as the Westboro Baptist Church.

Admission | This concert is FREE and open to the public. To manage capacity, ticket reservations are requested on our Eventbrite page. A $25 donation is suggested; donations can be made on Eventbrite when reserving tickets, or in cash at the door.

Runtime | The program will last about 85 minutes with no intermission.

Parking | Be sure to leave time to find parking in the downtown area; street parking is metered until 8:00 p.m., and garages are available in close proximity to the church.
