Once the 10 session package is purchased, the student may use their sessions however they choose. The course is ongoing, so each session has participants at all levels. We use a workbook which each student works through at their own pace.

This is the 30th year we’ve been helping people turn their dread into confidence. Gradual exposure allows you to face fear in manageable steps, at your own pace, in a supportive environment. Instructors Charles di Cagno and Kyra Smith, are phobia therapists, and former and current Directors of Public Speaking at White Plains Hospital Anxiety Treatment Center in the United States.

Whatever the level of public speaking, we can help you improve. For those with anxiety, we provide gradual exposure to public speaking through a step ladder of basic to more advanced exercises. For the more experienced, it's a platform tailored to your specific needs to improve various delivery techniques. It is self-paced, in a low pressure, supportive environment with lots of feedback to address your specific issues. Begin with basic exercises and move forward only when ready.

The course is ongoing, with a mix of beginning and advanced students. Our hope is you are inspired, not intimidated by the dynamic speakers present, and keep in mind they started with the same fears, progressing to their present level by consistent effort. The course is not difficult. If you have the will, we offer the way to turn a liability into your most powerful asset. The real challenge is admitting you need guidance, getting started, and making a committed, consistent effort.

Our 100% success rate over 20 years for wedding speeches is just one indication of our effectiveness. But, whatever the challenge, (formal presentation, group discussion, business meeting, sales, confrontation, employment interview) the program is customized to fit your needs.

Sample Gradual Exposure Program Outline for Public Speaking Anxiety:

Session One - Get comfortable hearing your voice in public by responding to very simple questions while seated. The questions (i.e., name, occupation, where you live, etc.) require little thought or content.

Session Two - Learning to stand confidently before a group. You will stand, with several others and respond to simple questions. As your confidence increases, one by one, each person standing will sit, until you are standing alone. You will continue until this begins to feel comfortable.

Session Three- This exercise is the same as the previous one except you start by standing alone.

Session Four - Gestures and Movement. Enhance your message, decrease tension and project a confident demeanor incorporating non-verbal skills.

Session Five - Implement the skills learned in the session four by relating a personal experience using gestures and movement to enhance your narrative.

Session Six - Respond to Questions. Open the floor to questions on a topic of choice.

Session Seven - Impromptu Speaking. Learn to organize and deliver an unprepared (no notes) talk.

Session Eight - Prepared Speech (Instructor Guided). Learn the secret of outlining and presenting a prepared speech with minimal effort or stress.

Once you have mastered the above you can begin simulating all manner of interpersonal and public communication including:

As well as many others

We look forward to working with you.

How long does it take to get better?

There is a direct correlation between your motivation and commitment and the speed with which you see results. Your patience and diligence will be rewarded; but, in this race, the tortoise beats the hare.

Will it get rid of my anxiety?

The goal is learning to accept and function with the anxiety, and appreciate your accomplishment. Fortunately, with practice, you gain confidence that you can function with the fear, and anxiety does eventually dissipate.

How many times per week do I attend?

You’re welcome to attend any class during the week. Most come once weekly, but more frequent attendance can accelerate progress, especially before a big event. Consistency is key sporadic attendance hinders growth, while overdoing it may cause burnout. The best approach is steady participation.

I don’t have much anxiety, just wanting to increase my skills.

Whether or not you experience public speaking anxiety, we’re committed to helping you become a dynamic, effective speaker. After each exercise, you’ll receive expert, targeted feedback to refine your skills and improve every aspect of successful communication.

I’m not a native English speaker

We service the entire globe and a high percentage of our participants are not native English speakers who manage to thrive in our program. An accent is not a liability unless listeners cannot understand you, in which case we will advise you to seek accent reduction training.

How many instructors are there?

We have two instructors: Charles di Cagno and Kyra Smith. Mr. di Cagno, who founded the program in 1990, was Director of Public Speaking and Social Anxiety at White Plains Hospital Phobia Clinic (1990–2010). Ms. Smith, with us since 2005, succeeded him as Director from 2010–2015.

The workbook is your roadmap for the course, with exercises arranged from basic to advanced. You'll progress step-by-step at your own pace, building skills and momentum as each exercise builds on the one before it.

The course is ongoing, with beginners, intermediates, and advanced participants at every meeting. Those tackling advanced exercises started just like you—they committed, attended consistently, and built their skills and confidence over time. With the same dedication, you can achieve it too.

How long does it take to get good?

Progress varies by individual, depending on the severity of the issue and commitment to improvement. However, most attendees see remarkable progress within weeks. This shift in perception often drives them forward, accelerating their growth and boosting their confidence.

How long does it take for my anxiety to go down?

The best approach is to expect, allow, and accept anxiety while progressing through the training. Focus on functioning with manageable anxiety, understanding it isn't an insurmountable obstacle. As you gain confidence in performing despite fear, your anxiety will naturally begin to fade.

My voice shakes

Trembling voice is a common symptom of public speaking anxiety, and we address that head on. You will be trained to pace yourself, pause, breathe deeply from the diaphragm and speak on the exhale, and thus generate more resonant and powerful vocal output.

My face turns red

Blushing can be embarrassing, but progress is possible through manageable steps. Expect and allow mild blushing, focusing on the task at hand. As your skills and confidence grow, anxiety decreases, making blushing less likely or bothersome. Plus, a reality check on how others perceive it can ease yo

I’m okay one on one, but…

You’re ahead of the curve, showing no fundamental issue with communication—one less area to address. In group settings, anxiety can disrupt thought organization. Here, you’ll learn to pause, gather your thoughts, and articulate clearly, which will boost your confidence and reduce anxiety.

I lose my train of thought

Blanking is a common fear, often causing panic and obsession over avoiding it. While it can’t be guaranteed, proper guidance and practice will help you visualize and organize thoughts, reducing blankouts. As your skills and confidence grow, overall anxiety decreases, making blanking less likely.

I’m worried about how I look or how I am doing

Self awareness is a double edged sword. It is beneficial to be aware of adherence to your message, and the skill set. It is self-defeating to scrutinize every nuance of your output and to have a "people pleasing" concern with how it is being received.

Do you do private training?

Private training is offered by appointment, and is advised for those experiencing elevated levels of anxiety keeping them from attending group classes, or those who require more intense training for a specific issue or upcoming presentation.

I need to leave early, or I’ll get there late

We welcome busy professionals and understand time constraints. Partial attendance is better than missing class entirely. However, we encourage members to be good citizens—staying to support peers ensures everyone benefits from a full audience for maximum practice, exposure, and experience.

What if the exercise is too easy?

You proceed through the course in manageable steps. If an exercise is too daunting we step back, or bypass it if it is not challenging enough.
