Robert “Bob” Metcalfe is a living legend in the tech world and one of Harvard’s most distinguished graduates. He is a scholar, thinker, teacher, inventor, and entrepreneur. Bob worked at Palo Alto's Xerox PARC, which was a wellspring of some of computing's most breakthrough technologies. His PhD thesis at Harvard was on ARPANet – the first network to implement the TCP/IP protocol and the predecessor to today's Internet. He founded the pioneering tech company 3Com that is now part of HP. Bob co-invented Ethernet on May 22, 1973, laying one of the most core foundations for today’s Internet. Bob retired as Professor of Entrepreneurship at UT Austin McCombs School of Business. He is Professor Emeritus of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Murchison Fellow of Free Enterprise in the Cockrell School of Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. He is also a member of the National Academy of Engineering. Bob has won numerous awards, including the Turing Award, IEEE Medal of Honor, ACM Grace Murray Hopper Award, Marconi Prize, and the National Medal of Technology and Innovation for his breakthrough work.

FUTURE: What do you see over the horizon for computing and the Internet? What future do you want to be invented?
