Join us for a conversation on the role of design in city-building and community development from national experts and local decision makers.
MAURICE COX, Planning and Development Director for the City of Detroit, will speak to his long career working between the worlds of design and city government. Throughout his career Cox has been critically engaged in these questions:

How can we encourage civic leadership from architecture and design?

How can local governments fully assume their responsibility for giving the city form?

And how can Atlanta take advantage of the opportunity to create a more vibrant, equitable city through design?

MAURICE COX, a nationally respected community designer and leader of the public interest design movement, is planning director for the city of Detroit. He has served as director of Tulane City Center, design director for the National Endowment of the Arts, and mayor of the City of Charlottesville. Throughout his career Cox has received national acclaim for his ability to incorporate active citizen participation into the design process while achieving the highest level of design excellence.
TIM KEANE was appointed Commissioner of Planning and Community Development for the City of Atlanta in 2015 by Mayor Kasim Reed. Prior to his appointment, Keane served as planning director for Charleston, South Carolina, where he led the effor to create the Century Five Comprehensive Plan.
