Connecting Freight and Metro: Data-Driven Innovation for Urban Logistics
Overview
This workshop explores how the FOR-FREIGHT platform enables a new, sustainable model for urban logistics by integrating freight transport with public metro infrastructure. Focusing on Scenario 2 of the Spanish Use Case, we will demonstrate how parcels can travel underground rather than on congested city streets.
Participants will discover how the FOR-FREIGHT platform’s predictive solvers, workflow engine, and API-based integration layer coordinate data flows between DHL’s transport management system and Metro de Madrid’s operational environment. Real-world trial results will highlight improvements in delivery reliability, locker utilization, and CO₂ reduction, illustrating the platform’s role as a unifying digital backbone for multimodal logistics.
Through presentations, interactive demos, and stakeholder discussions, the workshop aims to:
- Showcase the technical integration and solver orchestration underpinning the metro-based freight model.
- Discuss replication potential for other European cities seeking low-emission delivery methods.
- Highlight the FOR-FREIGHT platform’s flexibility to connect diverse transport systems through standardised, data-driven workflows.
By bringing together logistics operators, transport authorities, and technology partners, Underground Innovation demonstrates how FOR-FREIGHT transforms sustainability ambitions into operational reality—one metro ride at a time.
