About this event

The CompSci Scholars Program at Bridging the Gap 2023 is open to the first 14 people who are teaching, are interested in teaching, or wish to learn more about teaching computer science in North Carolina high schools.

The CompSci Scholars Program at Bridging the Gap 2023 includes a full-day workshop that participants are required to attend from 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 25 (the second day of the conference), titled "Teaching Computer Science in High School.” The goal of the required workshop, which will be led by Appalachian State University faculty and a code.org certified high-school teacher, is to provide attendees with hands-on experience using the Computer Science Principles curriculum provided by code.org.

CompSci Scholars will have full access at no cost to all plenary and concurrent sessions on Tuesday, October 24 (the first day of the conference).

In addition to free conference registration, each CompSci Scholar will be eligible to receive substitute teacher reimbursement up to $80 each day of the conference, not to exceed $160. Each CompSci Scholar also will receive a $250 stipend.

The CompSci Scholars Program generously is funded by an NSF CS4All grant awarded to Appalachian State University in 2021.

To be eligible, participants must be:

• A high school or early college educator in North Carolina currently teaching computer science or interested in teaching computer science

• A legal US citizen or permanent resident

• Able to attend the full-day workshop on October 25 (9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.)

Please note that a $50 refundable deposit is required to complete your registration. The deposit can be paid online via credit or debit card.

Space is limited to the first 14 eligible educators who complete and submit their registrations with their deposits.

As a CompSci Scholar, you must commit to attending each day of the Bridging the Gap conference on October 24-25, 2023. You also must complete the program evaluation provided after the conference has ended. We will refund your deposit and will provide your stipend and substitute teacher pay reimbursement once your attendance has been confirmed and your evaluation has been submitted.

If you need to cancel your registration, please do so by 11:59 p.m. on October 16, 2023, to avoid forfeiture of your deposit.
