This community building exercise invites participants to learn about Complex Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD). Along with differentiaiting CPTSD from similar conditions, participants are invited to consider evidenced-based treatment models and the structure of treatment when supporting folks impacted with CPTSD. Additionally, special attention will be given to attachment and subjective experience of the therapist as we learn and weave through the emotional demands of this work. Come join, learn and share.

Course Objectives:

-Participants will be able to describe the differences between Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Complex Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD)

-Participants will be able to describe the value and utility of structured, supportive therapies and unstructured, dynamic therapies

-Participants will learn about the subjective experience of the therapist

CECHs: 3 Continuing Education Contact Hours. Trauma Informed Care Certificate Elective Course.

Skill Level: Recommended for LMSW beginning, intermediate and advance skill levels.

Instructor: Derrick is a Licensed Professional Counselor in private practice in Lansing, Michigan. Derrick began his education and follow-along training courtesy of the U.S. Marine Corps. After service, Derrick sought and found a more stable educational experience finally completing his MA in Counselor Education at Western Michigan University in 2013. Derrick currently lives in the greater Lansing area with his family and when he’s not with his family or working he enjoys doing as little to nothing as possible and preferably outdoors.
