The webinar will be a comparison of cultural value differences and similarities with Japan and the United States to understand the implications for building relationships and doing business . We will focus on: consideration of others, tradition, work, home life and society. The comparison will be from the point of view of Tamami, a Japanese native who studied in the United States for over two years, from Rob, an American who worked in Japan for three years and Miriam, an American who has never visited Japan but has been acquainted with many Japanese natives throughout her life.

Bios:

Miriam is a cross-cultural enthusiast with a drive to help people and communities build bridges across cultures by widening their cultural understanding.

Miriam received her Bachelors of Arts from UMass Amherst's UWW program in Multicultural Psychology. She has been in the International Education field for over 5 years. She has worked closely with students from Saudia Arabia, China, Japan, Brazil, Turkey, Mexico, Thailand, Taiwan, Russia, Argentina, Morocco, and many other countries. She has presented twice on cross-cultural topics in the last two years.

Miriam comes from a multicultural family growing up with a father from Algeria and American mother has taught her firsthand the value of cultural perspectives. Miriam has traveled to Algeria, France, Italy and Canada.

Miriam is currently employed at Albertus Magnus College as a Coordinator of International Student Services and a member of NAFSA. She is also an aspiring cross-cultural trainer.

Rob is an energetic and inspirational individual who encourages others to succeed by motivating those around him with his passion!

He received both his Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and his Master of Business Administration from the University at Albany. Rob speaks English, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese and is conversational in Mandarin Chinese.

He has visited 50 countries, 38 states, and 6 continents. He has completed extended trips around The United States, South America, Europe, and Asia. He recently completed an Around-The-World Trip!

Rob is a certified cross-cultural trainer. He worked in Japan for several years teaching English with Berlitz. He has worked with organizations such as Bloomberg and Dwellworks. His professional and real-world experiences position him uniquely to bridge the gap between the Global Mobility and Cross-Cultural Industries.

Tamami is a student from Japan. She was born and raised in Japan and came to the U.S. when she was 18 for community college. She studied business management at a Community College in Boston for three years.

Tamami speaks English and Japanese. Tamami loves to learn about other countries. She has visited 11 countries and has studied abroad in 3 countries.

Tamami is currently teaching English in Japan.
