About this event

Join People’s Economy Lab (PEL) and the Democracy Collaborative as we bring a diverse group of community leaders, public officials, activists, entrepreneurs and philanthropists together to explore the transformative power of Community Wealth Building (CWB). CWB is an economic development model that transforms local economies by giving communities direct ownership and control of productive assets like real estate, businesses and financial capital. Cities across the nation, and the globe, are combating crises like the racial wealth gap by advancing CWB strategies.

The Democracy Collaborative is a think tank that has been stewarding this global movement for almost two decades. They are excited to bring their extensive research, strategic thinking, and on-the-ground organizing and development experience to our community to help chart a pathway towards CWB for Seattle.

The workshop will include:

  • An introduction to Community Wealth Building
  • CWB case studies from around the globe
  • Local examples of Community Wealth Building
  • PEL's recommended CWB strategies for Seattle
  • Practical strategies for community implementation
  • Interactive exercises and discussions to develop actionable plans for advancing CWB in Seattle and throughout Washington

This PEL event is part of the City of Seattle’s BIPOC Generational Wealth Building Initiative. To learn more about this initiative and Community Wealth Building visit our website.
