Overview

A DIY Mending Accountability Group to fix any holes, rips, and give some love to your favorite clothes to elongate their life.

Missing a button? Have a hole in your sock? Want to embroider over a stain?

Bring your mending projects to our Community Mending Circle and we will help you make them wearable again. Hosted by expert mender and tailor Carlin Ash.

Supplies Provided!

Projects we Encourage you to Bring:

  • Patching a hole in denim
  • Sewing a button back on
  • Basic hand stitching
  • Learn how to thread a needle, tie a knot, and mend minor rips in clothing
  • Fix rips and holes in clothing
  • Learn how to hand sew on a patch
  • Shaving pilled sweaters
  • Holes in sweaters
  • Sashiko style mending
  • Have other projects? We can't guarantee we know how to fix it immediately but, we love problem solving and are here to help figure a project out.

All levels of stitchers and upcyclers are welcome to attend! As an alternative to buying new things, we see upcycling as a way to be sustainable, show creativity, and work together to fight the fashion crisis.

Meet your Host: Carlin Ash

Carlin Ash is a tailor and sewist specializing in visible mending, denim repair, and hand-stitching. Her mission as a tailor is to help people live more sustainably by extending the life of their garments and keeping their favorite clothes in good shape. She has a particular love for helping clients restore or preserve sentimental and well-loved garments.

In addition to tailoring, Carlin is an illustrator and fiber artist with a passion for weaving and embroidery. Because every mend is unique, her multidisciplinary background helps her bring creative solutions to every garment she works on. Whether it’s darning, embroidered patches, knit repair, denim patching, or sashiko-style reinforcement, Carlin’s got you covered!
