Community Driven Innovation: Creating a Responsive Family Court

Minnesota Supreme Court Justice McKeig and Adam Miller, Director of the Fourth Judicial District's Justice for Families Program, will discuss:

Courts’ inconsistent identification and assessment of domestic violence in custody and parenting‐time cases;

Pressure on litigants to participate in and resolve family court cases in alternative dispute resolution (ADR) processes;

Inadequate representation, advocacy, or information necessary for victims of domestic violence to access relief in family court; and

The disproportionately low rate at which Native Americans seek relief in family court as compared to the Native American population in the district.
