Join our youth storytellers as they guide you through a collaborative narrative wherein you will reimagine your relationship to the shoreline, take tangible action, and have fun! The MLK Jr. Regional Shoreline is one of the only green spaces accessible to East Oakland, and it is important for us not just to conserve the place as-is, but to freedom dream about what it could be.

Twelve youth storytellers from Mycelium Youth Network's Leadership in Storytelling will be on-site to facilitate this event, which they have spent the last few months planning and producing. They have combined live-action role-playing, freedom dreaming, habitat restoration, and education in creative ways to ignite your imaginations!

If you are interested in being a partner, vendor, sponsor, or volunteer for this event, please go to this link. Note that this form is SEPARATE from registering as a participant in the event.

This event features a morning session and an afternoon session. Spaces are limited for each- if you are registering for multiple people (ex: a family unit), select tickets for each person over the age of 9 years old. If you cannot join us for the event but want to support our work and the work of other youth empowerment and cliamte-focused organizations, please check out our Resilience Village by the Damon Slough!

Frequently asked questions

Do you need LARP experience to attend?

No! We welcome all experience levels to this event. Bring your imaginations!

Can we wear our own costumes/props?

Yes! Please feel free to come in costume if you have something you'd like to wear. For props, please do not bring anything that could harm another person, even accidentally (ex: metal swords, large plastic or foam weapon, etc.). If you have questions, please reach out to gaming@myceliumyouth.org.

What can we expect for the day?

You'll check in with our staff, then go to a "character creation/design" station, and from there be sorted into a group that will be led by a pair of youth storytellers through a collaborative narrative! You'll learn more about the shoreline, do some habitat restoration work, and more!

Can we sign up for both sessions?

Please choose one session to attend.

Is this event family-friendly?

Yes! We'd love for intergenerational families to come and freedom dream about the shoreline together. Tickets not needed for youth under 9 years old.

Mycelium Youth Network has officially launched our ‘Freedom Dreaming Climate Justice’ summer series!

This summer, join MYN and learn practices for building community care, resistance, and resilience. Together, we'll co-create spaces where our radical imaginations can emerge and collectively activate portals in support of a just and solidarity future.

Most blooming on the horizon is our June 28th Community Day of Action at the MLK Shoreline! Stay tuned for more virtual and in-person events.
