Community Collaboration

Veterans Appreciation Month Event

The SIUE Office of Community Engagement is pleased to present a special program for veterans. This panel discussion will address challenges that veterans face navigating housing opportunities and educational benefits.

Dr. Terrence Duncan, MERC Board President and housing advocate, will discuss structural challenges, disparities in veteran housing access (especially for BIPOC veterans), and local/national programs that support stability and ownership.

Dr. Kevin Wathen, Director of the SIUE Office of Military and Veteran Services, will help guide veterans and their families through the complex system of educational benefits. He will also share how the Office continues to support veterans beyond benefits through orientations, ongoing communication, and providing a welcoming space that helps them stay connected throughout their time on campus.
