In the aftermath of the 2024 elections, deep reflection and assessment were needed. One year later, we have definitive evidence that Common Power the organization, and all who are committed to the idea of common power as a real practice, are winning. The road has been, and will continue to be, very hard. But together, we are creating an America that embraces both dignity and democracy. Join us for a 20-minute documentary "American Dignity" and a Q and A about why and how We the People are winning, and what is needed for us all in 2026.
Featuring:
Charles Douglas, Executive Director, Common Power
Charles Mauldin, American civil rights hero, Common Power Champion
Hanson Hosein, filmmaker, director of "American Dignity" documentary
David Domke, Professor, Common Power
American Dignity, Director’s Statement, by Hanson Hosein: On March 7, 1965, Charles Mauldin marched across the Edmund Pettus Bridge, knowing the danger ahead but refusing to stop. Nearly 60 years later, he walks that same bridge, joined in purpose by a new generation of organizers like Charles Douglas III, who leads Common Power in today's fight for voting rights door by door. American Dignity is an intergenerational reflection on the endurance of movements, the weight of history, and the courage required to keep marching—no matter what lies ahead. The voices of these Two Charles -- free of narration, similar to an on-the-scene podcast conversation -- make it clear that movements cannot depend on singular heroes. They must be sustained by the many, by those willing to step up—again and again.
